Weekend Snapshots 2016 #2

*Edit* I keep forgetting to add this is a weekly linkup hosted by 3twentysix and The Reinvention of Jessica! You should link up too :)

During sunset, the is a huge murder of crows (that's what you call a group of crows, I love it. Frogs are cool too, they are called an army!!! I love collective nouns. Did you know that was the name? A rainbow of butterflies (this one isn't really official I think, but I don't care). Gaggle of geese... I can go on) that fly in and settle into the trees lining the street next to the Paypal building (I don't work there, I just pass by there err day). With the time change and passing seasons, I only see this a few weeks of the year, because where I see the sunset changes, and I try to get a good enough photo that really captures the shear magnitude of birds. But it's hard cause the car is moving and sometimes larger vehicles get in my way and then I have Neil telling me what is with my obsession with these birds and just take a photo and be done with it, it's distracting and he is trying to drive. DON'T RUSH ART, GUY. Anyway. He was waiting in the car for me to get out from work and saw the crows flying (still does not capture all the birds!) and snapped a photo for me. Hooray! I still would like to get a photo of them in the trees, it looks so cool with the dark branches, dark silhouettes, and pink sky.

And in case anyone was thinking I'm like "hai, I'm Heather and I work in a super glamorous office building" no I'm not (well, I mean, I am Heather, the not was for the attitude) and I don't 'cause this is the building I work in.

My husband insisted we needed to buy our kitties this treat toy, which I resisted but was like okay but I don't think they will be interested. I need to stop not trusting Neil on his instinct on cat toys. They always love everything he picks out! Of course, every time I tried to get a photo of a cat playing with it, they would slink away.

Saturday morning my husband went to Oakland for a Magic card gathering thing so I chilled with the kitties (at this point, I'm sure this is a given and I don't really have to take photos of it) until my friend Katrina came by and we went to the mall. I was good and didn't spend too much money. I wanted to buy some grapefruit gummies from the candy store, but they didn't have any. Sad face.

Later I went to another mall (two malls in one day, who am I) with my husband and the Shanes, ate at the food court then went and saw the Revenant. I was under the impression opening weekend was LAST week, so I was a bit shocked that we ended up at the end of a long line. I thought we'd be last place in line, but we ended up being in the middle! So we still got good seats... unfortunately everyone around us were huge talkers. Neil had to turn around and ask the couple behind us if they were going to talk through the whole movie, and the girl was genuinely surprised that Neil was referring to her. We really didn't need to hear you say "that sucks" a thousand times. You know what sucks? Listening to you say that sucks.

  1. Oh those murderous crows, love it! I had heard that expression but forgotten it. Funny what you say about the movies, I just read this jokey but true thing yesterday: http://www.thedailymash.co.uk/news/society/most-people-go-to-cinema-just-to-be-annoying-2015012294669

I like how two of the kitties are all "I'm chilling on my pillow" and the other one is all "Whatever losers, I got this whole fan to myself!" :-0

    1. Omg that link, though in jest, feels so real! LOLS. My poor brother was next to people on their phones. Why spend so much money to not pay attention???

  2. I love that pic of the crows! Twice a year Houston gets migratory birds (not sure if they're crows or not) and holy shit are there a ton of them!!! In the winterish months you'll be looking at a tree and assuming it has leaves on it until all the birds fly away and the leaves turn out to be nothing but the birds.

There are few things I hate in this world more than people talking in the movies. I almost got arrested once for going into the lobby and furiously insisting management kick out the FAMILY WITH SMALL CRYING CHILDREN from an 11pm showing of Alien vs. Predator!!! Those poor kids were terrified and everyone in the theatre was pissed.

    Thanks for linking up!!!

    1. I asked my husband if he wanted me to say something but he told me no. I can get kind of bitchy ;) but then he HAD to say something because it was getting ridiculous. I would pay extra for more space, 21 or older only... so many things. People suck. There was just an unusually young crowd that night, they all started vaping as soon as they got outside.

Why bring kids so late and to such a scary movie??? People have no sense. Thank you for representing the rest of the movie goers :) :)

  3. I was going to say something about the crows but wrote murder of cows, laughed hysterically and forgot my thought LOL!!

"DON'T RUSH ART, GUY." Srsly, tell him to get his priorities right haha! How's the weather treating ya on your side of the country? I ask cause of the fan and cause it's super duper chilly here but still bareable, thankfully! People who talk at the movies should be fined and escorted off the property. It's not a FREE movie so STFU, people!!!!

    1. ha, a murder of cows seem like they should be wearing sunglasses or something...

It's been "cold" and by cold, I mean like 40-50ish during the day, and dipping into the 30's at night. My cats have learned to wait in front of the heater until someone notices and takes pity and turns it on for them. They started doing this with my roommate too and she is a sucker like me ;) Luckily it's also been raining a lot, so hopefully a less droughty summer.

  4. Ooh, I love that birds picture - it's quite beautiful, but also a little like "The Birds" the movie, you know? Ever since I saw that movie when I was little, I get squigged when I see large groups of birds, even as I am admiring how beautiful they are.
And taking pics (at least good ones) from a moving car is NOT easy.
All the kitties in the same room...nice. :)

    1. If i'm not in the car then i'm usually concerned about being pooped on but that's about it ;) specially those darn seagulls. once at school, a friend in my group picked up a duck and we fed it cheetos during lunch. there were a couple of ponds at the school... if that explains anything.

    2. I was working in New Jersey about 10 years ago (wait, what??? TEN FREAKING YEARS???) and there was a Canadian goose that made her nest at the bottom of one of the trees in the middle of the parking lot of the office complex, and she and her baby daddy were super aggressive about the four parking spaces that bordered the tree. Nobody would park there and they would run at anyone who got too close to their nest.

    3. i don't like to think of things in my past as decades either... like, wasn't the 90's just a few years ago???

i'm lucky i havent had to deal with territorial birds in the "wild", just birds at home ;) namely my brothers.
